New exhibition: ‘Texture’ at Dot Gallery

I'm so thrilled that my painting 'Where the Footsteps Planted, Minis' will be shown at Dot Gallery in Cumbria, as part of their 'Texture' show. Do pop in if you're nearby, the gallery will be full of unique work.

This piece holds glimpses from a summer with my two young daughters, caught between watching where their footsteps land (they know no danger yet) and trying to notice the world the way they do. Little feet led us to Springfield Park and its views over the River Lea, through Piet Oudolf's garden at Hauser & Wirth Somerset, and past the Echinaceas at Hestercombe House. There's real pride in watching my girls move through the world this way, curious and unhurried.

By painting these moments, I get to hold onto them in a purer form, without the everyday hiccups attached. Just the wonder.

I picked the finished piece up from Pendragon Frames this week (framers to the Tate, no less) and gasped when I saw it. Dark oak, an off-white mount, and anti-reflective glass so delicate the painting seems to float free of it.
